Start with the roleplay you want to continue
Choose a shared project, recurring scene or a companion’s routine. Then compare how you want to maintain context: selected pins, editable notes, tier-dependent recall or summaries plus facts. Character.AI’s snapshot memory cell records 15 free memory pins, 30 with lite and a plan-dependent Lorebook; its creation field includes sharing. Memory · Creation.

Its creation tools are affirmative, while the memory field explicitly describes forgetting older chats. Snapshot source.
Continue after a time jump
Separate a scene update from a personal detail. “Let’s continue after the design review; the sketch is on the table” advances a fictional scene. “I usually start with color before layout” shares a preference. These are suggested prompts, not transcripts. Summaries and extracted personal facts support different parts of that context. Privacy §5(b)–(c).
A three-part roleplay checklist
Identity: Write one sentence naming the character, setting and relationship. Compare it with the public descriptor or character you created.
Continuity: State the current scene clearly when returning. Long-term personal facts and a complete scene script are different kinds of information. Conversation deletion also removes associated memory and summaries under §5(e).
Privacy: In the 2 October snapshot, 7/15 permit chat-based training or improvement; Elyvie is the 1/15 that explicitly excludes it. Policy comparison.
Start with the public roster and choose an identity you want to develop a conversation with over time.

How we checked
Data boundary: as of 2 Oct 2026, 15 apps checked. We used the 15-app, 12-field tracker and its official-source cells. Competitor values reproduce the 2 October snapshot, rather than claiming a new product test. Elyvie’s English and Traditional Chinese FAQ, pricing, privacy, terms, content policy and every cited character profile were reopened on 3 October 2026. Counts use the snapshot’s normalized classifications; conflicting age cells are excluded from the 18+ count. “Not stated” is separate from “no”. This is a document comparison; we did not sign in or test chat quality.
