AI Companion Apps 2026 Tracker
As of 3 October 2026, 14 of 23 AI companion apps say in their privacy policy or official privacy help pages that they may use your conversations to train or improve AI, including internal safety algorithms. This tracker records 12 officially sourced fields for each app.
An AI companion app is a consumer application that lets people converse with simulated characters or personalized AI partners, potentially through text, voice, images or memory across conversations. Inclusion here describes conversational and character-based use; it does not assess response quality, health outcomes or suitability for an individual. The tracker covers four types: character chat, AI girlfriend/boyfriend apps, general assistants used for companionship, and voice companions.

Methodology
Sources are limited to each vendor’s own website, help center, pricing, legal pages, official blog, or developer-authored app-store listing. Search was used to discover sources; each cell’s cited source was opened and read. Direct GETs recorded HTTP status, and fresh, unauthenticated Playwright/Chromium headless contexts were used only for pages needing JavaScript. Elyvie was restricted to its pricing, FAQ, privacy, terms and content-policy pages. No signup, login, chat, purchase or form submission was performed.
The checked date is 3 October 2026, not a feature-release date. The original 15 apps retain the 2 October snapshot, with cited URLs opened for a link check on 3 October; the eight added apps were read field by field. This is not a fresh runtime test of all 23 apps. The 276 cells comprise 210 verified, 62 not stated and 4 conflicting cells. Some pages were readable only through the web tool’s public indexed representation; sources.md records local HTTP failures and access differences. Documentation is a vendor statement, not an independent runtime verification.
“not stated” means the accessible official material read did not provide an explicit statement sufficient for that field. It can include inaccessible policies or account-gated pricing; it is not a claim that no statement exists anywhere. Conflicting text is retained with both sources rather than selecting one. Unknown and conflicting cells do not enter positive finding counts.
The trainsOnChats field records what the vendor’s privacy policy or official help-center privacy/model-training article explicitly says. Explicit conversation use to train, fine-tune or improve AI—including internal safety algorithms—is classified as yes; an explicit exclusion is no. Per-character memory, generic service improvement, training permission that does not identify chat content, and app-store promotion are insufficient. General deletion rights, consent withdrawal and conditional legal objections are not counted as universal model-training opt-outs. Character.AI is yes with an EEA/UK opt-out based on its official help-center model-training article. Nomi.AI is yes based on its official privacy FAQ linking anonymized chats to direct AI improvement. Training remains not stated for 8 of 23 apps; no unknown is interpreted as no.
Free access may be an ongoing tier or a one-time preview, as indicated in the cell. Paid entries identify the entry tier, prefer an explicitly stated monthly list price and preserve other confirmed intervals. Annual monthly-equivalent discounts are not monthly list prices. Legacy or unspecified-period app-store items are not assumed to be the current lowest purchasable offer. In-app or region-dependent prices are labelled accordingly. Candy.ai and Elyvie displayed a dollar sign from the Taiwan connection without an ISO currency code; neither USD nor TWD is inferred and no conversion is performed.
Platforms refer to confirmed conversation access. Marketing websites, Discord communities, user-built API integrations, and iOS-on-Mac compatibility are not separate platforms. Browser home-screen shortcuts count as web. The image field requires explicit generation inside a conversation; standalone generators, pre-made pictures, avatars and uploads do not establish that feature.
Minimum ages come from explicit statements in the Terms body, not store age ratings or legal inferences from general incorporation clauses. SpicyChat’s Community Guidelines and Candy.ai’s Underage Policy state 18+, but those separate documents do not satisfy this field’s Terms-only rule; their thresholds are noted in the cell source notes. Deletion requires an in-product account deletion or documented account-reset route. Email erasure requests are not in-product controls, and legal, backup or de-identified archive retention is not hidden.
The intended maintenance cycle is a full monthly re-check of all 276 cells, next planned for 2 November 2026. The research dataset is labelled CC BY 4.0; vendor source documents retain their own rights.
Grok is one row for the whole app; Companions are iOS-only, and its memory, voice and image findings do not establish those features for every character. General-assistant scale and features are not dedicated-companion metrics. Kindroid and Muse document account-reset routes; Gemini’s route deletes the whole Google Account. These are not verified standalone app-deletion interfaces. Training controls have service-specific scope; unknown does not mean no training.
