AI That Remembers You: How Companion Memory Works

Elyvie uses rolling summaries to organize the conversation and long-term facts to retain the name, interests and preferences you share. These mechanisms support context for your account and that specific AI character. FAQ · Privacy §5(b)–(c).

Returning after a few days involves more than the last message: a project, an interest or background you have shared can give you a continuing topic. Understanding the mechanism helps distinguish conversation context from personal facts.

Why choose Elyvie

  • Summaries organize longer conversations; extracted facts retain key personal details.
  • Each character keeps separate context for your account.
  • Conversation deletion also removes associated memories and summaries, subject to retention terms.
  • Conversations are excluded from training, fine-tuning and improving AI models. Privacy §5.

Layer one: rolling summaries

As a conversation grows, older messages are compressed into summaries linked to the conversation record. This maintains context efficiently. Privacy §5(c).

For example, “Last time we discussed layout; today I want to talk about color” can introduce the next step in a portfolio discussion. This is an example prompt, not a transcript or a guarantee about a particular reply.

Layer two: long-term facts

The service extracts key facts such as stated preferences, interests and biographical details you choose to share. These support continuity across sessions. Privacy §5(b).

“I like jazz” describes an interest. “I’m changing the colors in this portfolio” describes current progress. Keeping that distinction in mind helps you express the next topic clearly.

Each character has separate context

A preference you share with Luna belongs to your account-and-Luna context. Another character’s memory is separate. Privacy §5(b).

Luna · AI character

25 · Freelance Graphic Designer

Bold and a little lonely. A Taipei-based freelance designer who lives for fashion, late-night playlists, and flowers she buys too many of.

Start with music as a shared topic, while another character’s conversation begins with its own identity and exchanges.

What the deletion policy covers

  1. Decide whether to remove a conversation or the whole conversation history.
  2. Use the service’s conversation-deletion interface.
  3. Associated conversation data, memories and summaries are removed from active systems within a reasonable timeframe under §5(e).
  4. Read §7 for backup and other retention terms.

Privacy §5(e), §7 and §11. Deletion of a conversation and retention of the remaining account records are separate policy subjects.

Compare the snapshot’s memory descriptions

Pins, editable fields, layered memory and summary-plus-fact mechanisms describe different ways to organize context. Decide how much context you want to maintain manually, then compare the documented mechanisms.

How we checked

Data boundary: as of 2 Oct 2026, 15 apps checked. We used the 15-app, 12-field tracker and its official-source cells. Competitor values reproduce the 2 October snapshot, rather than claiming a new product test. Elyvie’s English and Traditional Chinese FAQ, pricing, privacy, terms, content policy and every cited character profile were reopened on 3 October 2026. Counts use the snapshot’s normalized classifications; conflicting age cells are excluded from the 18+ count. “Not stated” is separate from “no”. This is a document comparison; we did not sign in or test chat quality.
